Taliah Gipson was born in the oil booming town of Hobbs, NM. The youngest of four children, she was always a bit different. Quiet in her own right, but unique in her own skin. She began singing with her two older sisters at various church functions. Her father encouraged them to sing often, and occasionally played their recordings on his Sunday radio segment.
Throughout her childhood, Taliah also sang in various gospel choirs. She began writing during her teen years, but didn't take note of her talent until losing a sister to cancer in 2000. Soon after her sister's death, Taliah began writing. What began as musical therapy, blossomed into a true passion. "I can't imagine a life without music and this gift of writing that was given to me," Taliah says.
During her final college years at Texas Tech University, Taliah exposed her love of songwriting. She began singing original songs at small events, hosted by a sorority that she was affiliated with.
After graduating college, Taliah relocated to Las Vegas where she now resides. She began writing gospel songs with her brother-in-law, singer Johnathan Dawson, and became more intrigued with developing her own sound. She was also afforded the opportunity to sing a few background vocals on Johnathan’s debut album.
Later on, Taliah began exploring with other music genres, and tested the waters by writing songs for a few aspiring singers. She entered an online song contest ran by producer Rodney Jerkins, and received great feedback that encouraged her to keep writing. In 2010, Taliah auditioned for a songwriting casting. She was ultimately not cast, but says that the experience sparked a deeper drive inside of her. In 2012, Taliah performed at the Tastes and Sounds of Soul Festival, alongside artists Legacy and Swerve. More recently, she performed at a poetry event where she was well received.
Taliah grew up listening to various gospel artists including Shirley Caesar, The Winans, The Clark Sisters, John P. Kee, Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Virtue and many more. She also often listened to various r&b artists including SWV, Brandy, Monica, Mariah Carey, Whitney, and others. Taliah now listens to various genres, and describes her sound as a culmination of all the music she has grown to love.
This is a journey of a lifetime for this young, inspirational artist. She hopes that others will experience this musical journey with her. Taliah says, “I am grateful that God has blessed me with the desire to pursue my dreams, and I cannot wait to share my love of music with my family, friends, and the world!”
